Out and about in Bristol Virginia

May 5th, 2008

I’m probably kicking a dead horse here but today I decided to go out and meet a few of the folks at local businesses as kind of a marketing test for our local area.

Eight years ago when I first started Proimpulse and we were pretty much a one person operation I attempted a few local sales calls and actually got a couple of local clients, one of which is still with us today.

I pretty much gave up on the local market after that but the first of this year we joined the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, ran an ad in the yellow pages and did all the things a good local business was supposed to do.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy throwing money down a bottomless hole, it’s one of my favorite things to do (outside of having a root canal with no anesthesia) but come on folks, wake up!

I am starting to believe what I have said for some time now, Bristol Virginia/Tennessee and the Tri Cities in general is internet and technology scared and they can’t see the forest for the trees.

Most everyone I talked with today was complaining about the economy being bad, business being slow, etc but… “Hello” wake up people, if you would get your business, goods, products, services, etc out to a larger region then maybe, just maybe you might bring in more revenue to our humble, non tech savvy area.

I’m probably wasting keystrokes here typing this but I just had to say it…

You can lead a horse to water but… never mind, I’m not going to say it.
