eBay Selling – Make money on eBay Beginner Basics - How to Sell on eBay

eBay selling is one of the easiest ways to start making money the very day you set up an eBay account. You have an instant marketplace with eBay and potential people already looking for what you have to sell.

Before you start selling on eBay there are a few things you want to consider.

What will you sell? I’m sure you have seen all the TV commercials that if you want “it” you can find “it” on eBay and that’s true. You can virtually sell anything on eBay and consumers will buy it. Recommended things to sell would be to start with something you love or know something about. You may have a hobby like fishing which you could sell fishing accessories or a hobby like some sort of craft which you could sell the tools to do that craft.

If you are a business owner and sell tangible goods then chances are you could sell them on eBay or at least sell your overstock or clearance items.

Once you have decided what you want to sell then you need to get your thoughts together on how you will display your product to your potential buyers. You will want to get some good clear photos of your product because a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes you will even need to display more than one picture in your eBay Auction or eBay Store listings so people will know exactly what they are buying.

Writing text that will sell your product

You want to write good text that will sell your product instead of just listing facts about your product. Remember it’s the benefits that sell an item not features. For example if you are selling a pair of designer jeans people don’t care if they are double stitched and can be run over by a semi truck and still look as fresh as the day they were made they want to know how good they will make them look when they wear them and how soft they will feel and how easy they will be to wash them. Get my point?

Always be honest when you write your listings and list anything that is important or that you feel the buyer should know, remember they can’t physically touch your item so you not only have to be their eyes but you have to be their hands too.

Shipping, collecting payment and following up after the sale

You will need to decide on shipping costs for the products you are selling and don’t forget to add a little in for your time in packing and materials. You don’t have to make a fortune on shipping but make sure you cover yourself. eBay has options to let you select exact shipping cost based on postal and UPS rates also.

Payment for the items you sell on eBay is simple, you need to sign up for a free PayPal account and they will do the work for you. You will be able to accept major credit cards through PayPal and then deposit that money in your bank account of have PayPal send you a check.

Customer service is a very important key; it will make or break your eBay business. You want to make sure you follow on emails that potential buyers will send you so get used to checking your email on a regular basis. If you look through the feedback of some of the sellers on eBay you will see that the negative feedback more times than not is because of the lack of communication. The seller didn’t follow up to emails that were sent via the buyer.

Always be kind and courteous when responding to emails remembering that it’s very hard to display emotion when writing an email (don’t take emails to be harsh or take them too personal). A lot of eBay sellers will even list a phone number for contact and they is a plus because it will build confidence and let your potential buyers know they are dealing with a real person.
