Zen Cart does not require you to know any HTML, programming or anything complicated in order to maintain your eCommerce website. If you can turn your computer on you can operate and update Zen Cart, yes, we suppose this is true also.

When Zen Cart came out we worked with many clients to set up custom Zen Cart websites with professional designs and we had good success with Zen Cart sites until the bug fixes and security holes and issues with modules for extra features became a virtual nightmare for us and our clients. Did we make a mistake here? No as we said at the time Zen Cart was a great solution for our clients but times have changes and like anything else on the internet you have to keep moving forward.
One of our biggest issues with Zen Cart was the support, if you need support you are at the mercy of their forum where you have to post your question and hope you get an answer from someone that knows what they are talking about. Another issue is the fact there are many modules that you can install to make your Zen Cart Website function better or to be more search engine friendly but you must be careful when using these modules in combination with each other because they tend to cancel each other out, they can also cause a lot of unnecessary work when you go to upgrade your website to a newer version because most of the modules are written for a specific version and may not work with the latest version of Zen Cart.
Upgrading is the next big issue, as we mentioned above there are issues with compatibility but it seems that the newer versions keep rolling out. We are not against upgrading software to make it better and more secure but again, if you are going to release an upgrade and then penalize your users, that’s not very smart. Why make your users redo their entire website or force them to stop using some of the functionality because you had to patch a hole to keep hackers out? Why should you have to deal with this just to keep your website secure and to keep hackers out?
